September: Full Corn/Harvest Moon

September's full corn moon gets its name because it marks the time when crops are collected at the end of the summer. During this period, the Moon shines especially brightly and rises early, allowing farmers to extend their harvesting into the night. This moon is also occasionally referred to as the barley moon and is frequently the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox, thus earning the name 'harvest moon'.
