How We Accept or Resist Light

As I look out the window and see the magnificent rays of pure sunlight shining brightly, how we humans accept light or resist light becomes a very curious thought.

At some point in our daily lives we always have quiet moments we all come to eventually, these moments are the kind that sneak in during the pause between one breath and the next. They often arrive in the stillness, in the aftermath of chaos, or in the middle of joy. A simple but profound question surfaces and we ask ourselves am I accepting light or am I fighting and resisting light?

The light I am referring to here is not the kind of light that flips on with a switch. I am talking about the kind that lives inside moments of truth, that we can define as the essence or the divine spirit within each of us. The kind that shows up as clarity, love, peace, healing, and joy.  Light can be said to be truths that warm us, reveal us, and sometimes challenge us.

Some people do not allow light in because when it hits wounds deep within it doesn't always feel gentle or even like light, some misunderstand this and think that light is always comfortable, however light can feel uncomfortable before it feels smooth and flowing. Imagine yourself standing on a stage, the curtains go up and the lights are turned on, well your first instinct might be to cover your eyes or to run, to resist the brightness. But if you stand strong and adjust, as your vision clears and you begin to see out into the audience. Our lives are also like being on a stage, and if you stand and welcome the light in and allow it to flow you will be able to see out into all areas clearly and direct and flow the light as you choose for yourself.

In addition you can use the bright light to flow into your emotional, mental and spiritual fields so that you can progress, be in reality, accept truth, embrace change, be vulnerable, and transform negative shadows in positive light.

As we live our lives, we often resist light not because we are weak but because we are humans and this can show up in many ways, for example:

  • Ignoring your intuition even when it speaks clearly.

  • Holding onto bitterness instead of choosing healing.

  • Staying silent when your voice wants to be heard.

  • Choosing comfort over growth, even when it hurts your soul.

  • Dismissing compliments or kindness because you don’t feel worthy.

Resistance isn’t always loud, sometimes it hides and reveals itself in self-doubt, or in the quiet lies we tell ourselves to stay small. Accepting light doesn’t mean being endlessly positive or “perfect.” It means being honest, brave, and open.

It looks like:

  • Telling the truth, even when it’s hard.

  • Forgiving, not because it's deserved, but because you forgive.

  • Letting yourself be loved, especially when you feel unlovable.

  • Trusting that your path is unfolding, even if you don’t understand it yet.

  • Allowing joy in, without guilt or hesitation.

Light asks to be let in, it doesn't force itself in, and equally it is not controlled, it should just be allowed to illuminate and flow. How you relate to light determines how you relate to yourself. If you resist light, you might find yourself stuck, repeating patterns, feeling disconnected, and always searching. But if you begin to accept it to yourself, even in tiny ways, everything starts to shift. You will begin to soften, open, and grow. You will start recognising that you’re worthy of clarity, of healing, and of joy.

You begin to live in truth and stay connected to what is true for you in your life. You can always do a simple process of asking yourself:

"Where in my life am I resisting light, and where am I ready to let more light in?"

Be gentle and honest with yourself as you check in, take small steps and stay present and honest with yourself at all times.  Be sure to breathe before, during, and after this process and stay in kindness and compassion with yourself.
